When Bruce Gough established Building Energy in 2008, he set out to collaborate with clients to find ways to improve energy efficiency in Ottawa’s buildings. Bruce was a pioneer in the industry, and considered the father of the Energy Star Program in Canada.
Today, the team strives to further Gough’s legacy. We know developers feel the pressure to keep costs in check while delivering on the ever-increasing expectations of buyers and we work with them to seek out innovative solutions to drive better results.
We have been working with Building Energy for 12+ years. Besides doing all of our Energy Star compliance testing, they have provided technical advice on our ever evolving building envelope, and conducted on-site seminars for our staff and subcontractors. They provide an exemplary degree of expertise and professionalism. Tartan enjoys an enviable reputation as a premier builder of energy efficient homes, and, in large measure, we have Mark and Building Energy to thank for this.
Bruce Nicol, President of Tartan Homes, Ottawa
Mark has always been passionate about creating buildings that perform exceptionally well. After co-founding the architecture firm plotnonplot, Mark designed his own Passive House here in Ottawa, and invited the local community on tours to learn about it throughout construction. Mark started as a site inspector at Building Energy in 2008, becoming its owner in 2011. He has helped develop software tools, sits on several advisory boards and continues to actively lead the industry towards positive change. Mark was named Ontario’s Energy Advisor of the Year in 2013 and 2018.
